YANKEE CANDLE 2013 Q3 DETAILED REVIEW – SALTED CARAMEL, VANILLA CHAI, LAKE SUNSET and NOVEMBER RAIN

It’s pouring with rain today in West London. We are due another hot spell beginning tomorrow, but autumn is tapping on the window and letting us know that in just a few short weeks things will be darker, colder and if we dare admit it, a little more atmospheric.

It’s not all doom and gloom as we approach the last days of summer, we can celebrate the riotous autumn colours plus of course enjoy our Q3 release Yankee Candles during the season they were designed for!

I have a trio of the quarter 3 Yankee Candle releases and I have burned them all over the past few weeks (see my weekly burn review articles), but this piece will gather together my thoughts all in one place.

Let’s start with the one I don’t have, NOVEMBER RAIN -

A quiet interlude of the season is reflected in this airy, refreshing mix of watery leaf notes, warm amber and crisp, brisk air.

It’s on my wants list and I have had the pleasure of a couple of sniffs while in shops. As Yankee Candle fans know though, a shop sniff doesn’t really give you a true reflection of the scent. As you’d expect NOVEMBER RAIN is one of the watery scents and it has that distinctive perfumed note. Once I do get hold of it I am sure it will feature in my burn reviews.

On to LAKE SUNSET -

The serene beauty of the sun's golden rays as they dip into still blue waters, calling to mind the musky descent of nightfall.

In autumn timespan order, this one has to be first. From the picture on the jar to the scent, this one is reminiscent of a warm autumn day and the beautiful sunset that follows. I know a lot of Yankee Candle fans have been burning this all through the summer – it is a warming fragrance. Not dissimilar to Pink Sands, LAKE SUNSET is sweet, yet subtly so and has a hint of muskiness.  My wife absolutely loves it and it is her favourite of the Q3 candles.

Next up VANILLA CHAI -

It's the perfect accompaniment to "me" time - a supremely satisfyingly rich and spicy recipe of ginger, cinnamon and vanilla.

Vanilla Chai is a definite warming candle. One that will bring a degree of spice and fun to an autumn evening. Vanilla fans may be a little disappointed as any creaminess is well hidden. But those who love spice and the exotic will adore this candle. It’s my personal favourite of the new releases and to me it brings to mind wandering through a spice market in a faraway Asian town. Not that I’ve ever done that, but in my fantasy I’m there! Alternatively it reminds me of walking into a sumptuous Indian restaurant and the smell of the ginger, cinnamon and other spices that hit you as you are taken to a table. I absolutely love this candle – one to make you drool!

And lastly, SALTED CARAMEL -

Sweet surrender is yours with our luscious gourmand confection of burnt sugar, sea salt and smooth vanilla caramel.

This one is the strongest of the bunch throw wise – and that is saying something as the others aren’t shy with their fragrance either! Salted Caramel almost leaps out of the jar at you when you take the lid off and a burn will fill any space very quickly. The scent will linger too – filling your house with its delicious aroma. This candle brings to mind Halloween and Bonfire Night and all of the festivities that go with it. The aroma of caramel blended with sugar from confectionary whisks you off to a carnival or an autumn party. Think toffee apples, roasting chestnuts, candy floss and the almost burnt smell that goes with that and you have the wondrous SALTED CARAMEL!

In summary, this is an AMAZING Q3 release from Yankee Candle (if I have to be honest much better than the Q2). All of the fragrances have a good strong throw and each is stunning in its own way. No wishy washy light fragrances where you have to hunt around for the scent, these candles will all let you know they are there!

If you haven’t picked one (or them all) up yet, what are you waiting for?!!
