MY YANKEE CANDLE DIARY – FRENCH LAVENDER, OCEAN BLOSSOM, GARDEN TIME, HONEY BLOSSOM and more (w/e 27 Apr 14)

Always good to get the week off to a positive start and Red Velvet certainly does that. Just love the combination of vanilla and cakey notes. Always indulgent.

One of my very favourite yankee candles is Midsummer’s Night. It is strong, rich and dark. It went perfectly with the new BBC adaptation of Jamaica Inn. Midsummer’s Night has a robust aftershave type quality and I just love it.

The heaven’s opened up a few times this week and Nature’s Paintbrush suited the mood perfectly. This fragrance really captures the atmosphere of the outdoors on a cold and rainy day.

On to Lovely Kiku which has a pleasant floral tone with hints of powdery sweetness. A pleasant and not overly heady floral.

Saturday was a big Yankee day in our house. We started off with the dying embers of a special edition Beach Walk tumbler and followed with a lovely slow burn of Garden Time from the Dream Garden range – which has now also been released in the USA as well as Europe. Garden Time is my favourite of the three scents in the range with its delicate herby notes softened slightly with a creamy touch.

A Honey Blossom votive showed hidden depths I hadn’t noticed before. There really is an interesting mix of notes in this scent, beyond the obvious honey and floral combination.

Sweet Honeysuckle also in votive form was also quite interesting. Only very slightly sweet, this fragrance had more of a true green floral note to it.

For Saturday night, to mix spring with the feeling of dampness still in the air, we used Ocean Blossom. This delectable scent has a light seawater feel, touched with a bright powdery floral. It truly does bring to mind the smell of flowers while out on the ocean. It is lovely both in looks and scent.

Sunday started and finished with the warming rich notes of Pink Sands. This scent is always a winner with its lovely mix of fruit and creamy richness.

And finally, it has been a long time since we’ve used French Lavender and what a treat it is. The lavender is strengthened with a rich, peppery feel making this the king of all lavender fragrances.
