MY YANKEE CANDLE DIARY – LUAU PARTY, BLACK PLUM BLOSSOM, PLUMERIA + more (w/e 11th May)

This turned into a week of burning a lot of exciting fragrances – with no less than 4 firsts for me in one form or another.

A welcome public holiday on Monday in the UK, so I started the day off with the pure lavender scent of Blue Lavender.

This was followed in the evening by a welcome return for the exotic notes of Black Coconut.

First of the week’s debuts was a votive of A Child’s Wish, which was lit several times. Sorry to say I got virtually nothing from this – no scent, even when within a few inches of me for an extended period of time. I’m sure it’s fine in other forms but I wouldn’t recommend samplers of this one.

A better success was a melt of a Cherry Blossom tart. A beautiful rich powdery scent. Perfect for springtime.

A bit of excitement Thursday night as we had a debut burn of newly released Black Plum Blossom. This fragrance is very fruity indeed  - full of rich plums and more than a hint of grape I think, which reminded me of the retired Vineyard scent. There is a touch of floral in there too, but it was the fruity notes in this unusual fragrance that I really liked and its scent lingered in my living room well into the next morning.

And at last, we broke open our Plumeria jar on Friday night. Plumeria having returned to QVC a couple of times this year, it inspired us to give the jar a go which we purchased last year. Not as strong as I thought it would be – but Plumeria is a wonderfully complex floral scent and I look forward to exploring its hidden depths more in the future!

Into Saturday and Lemon Lavender is always a perfect kick off weekend fragrance.

This was followed by Island Spa which was the perfect fizzy scent to match the weather which was showery with outbreaks of sunshine.

And Saturday was Eurovision Song Contest night and I had purposefully saved my Luau Party jar for this event. Despite a busy household, it made itself known with its bright and bubbly fruit medley.

Into Sunday and a false promise of rain, but I was committed to use Mountain Lake. It did well with its delicious dark grey wax pool matching the clouds above and it’s watery, aftershave like notes are always a treat.

Finally to close the week down, a candle that I like more and more – the lovely baked cake notes of Vanilla Cupcake. Yum!
