MY YANKEE CANDLE DIARY – WAIKIKI MELON, WEDDING DAY, BUTTERCREAM, SALTED CARAMEL and more (w/e 25th May)

The early burst of summer has broken and we return to colder nights and wetter days. In candle terms that means a switch around for me. I won’t quite be bringing out my beach and holiday type Yankee Candle fragrances just yet!

Having said which we started the week with Waikiki Melon. Mainly to celebrate having just ordered a backup jar (there’s nothing so satisfying as knowing you have a spare!), but also to enjoy its exotic fruity delights with Lost – series 3.

A definite nip in the air on Thursday, so much so that one of the real favourites from last autumn, Salted Caramel was burned. I’ve mentioned its strength before, you don’t even need to light it. Really enjoyed the lovely robust caramel tones and it’s not too sweet either.

Lavender Vanilla was a treat to kick off the weekend. A terrific Yankee fragrance it manages to be both exotic and uplifting. The lavender is so rich in this but it’s not at all sharp due to the blending with a warming vanilla creaminess.

Grey skies on Saturday and Lemon Lavender freshened up the house to start the day. This was followed by a rainy afternoon and a lovely slow burn of Mountain Lodge. We’ve (well ok my wife) noticed that Mountain Lodge has many of the notes in First Down (leather excepted). It’s a masculine yet deliciously perfumed fragrance. Still one of my favourites.

Saturday night and along with the Yankee Candle show on QVC, I lit Wedding Day. A fairly recent addition to our collection, it’s now an instant favourite. Another beautiful fragrance full of white florals but with an exotic  soft perfume too. Definitely not just for Weddings!

We were out all day and night Sunday and returned late to a treat of Buttercream melting in the electric warmer. Its rich, strong almost clotted cream notes make it an instant ‘welcome back home’ fragrance after a long day’s travelling and having fun.
