Please tell us a bit about you

My name is Lisa Fairclough and  I live in a small village near York, called Melbourne, with my husband Mark who is a pig farmer and my children Amy (17) and Henry (14)

For many years I was a child minder, but gave that up a couple of years ago to become the office manager at my brother's courier company. We deal in animal samples and have drivers all over the country picking up blood/tissue samples etc from vets and taking them to a lab in the North and one in the South for testing.

My main hobbies other than Yankees are football (I have supported Man City since I was little and also love the Bundesliga) and reading. I am a little bit obsessed with Agatha Christie and have all her books in several formats. I also enjoy historical fiction and am currently reading The White Queen by Philippa Gregory.

How did your Yankee candle obsession start and when?

I first discovered Yankee Candle when I went to a Millennium eve party at a friend’s. She had just returned from Boston and was burning the samplers she had bought. I can't remember the exact fragrance, but it was definitely a vanilla one.

Can you tell us a bit about your collection (number, type, oddities etc)

I currently have 66 large jars, 14 medium and 11 small in my collection, as well as about a dozen tumblers and a drawer each of samplers and melts. I prefer house warmer jars and my favourite is a medium Halloween one called All Hallows Eve. It is a swirled mix of Evening Air and Midnight Jasmine, so smells amazing and has a holographic label. I also have a few black banded small jars that I've picked up on EBay etc.

Are you a collector, a burner or both?

I used to burn jars as well as melts and samplers, but now tend to keep the jars for displaying and use melts in my electric warmer. I'm not a huge fan of samplers as I find the smell is never as strong, but I have got more into tea lights recently.

What is your favourite Yankee Candle and why?

My favourite Yankee is Mountain Lodge and has been since my first smell of it, on its release. It’s difficult to describe what I like about it, but it just makes me feel so relaxed, whatever else is happening in life. It has the ability to make me feel I'm really at the place on the label and as I've burnt it in so many situations over the years, it has a lot of happy memories associated with it.

If you could suggest one unmade scent to Yankee what would it be?

My favourite smell in the world is basil so I'd have to say that. I know there have been variations of it over the years but I don't think I've ever seen a pure basil one and I think that would be lovely.

Which Yankee Candle do you wish was brought out of retirement?

Apart from the obvious Mountain Lodge I think I'd choose Fresh Cut Herbs. I was lucky enough to have a medium jar of this a few years ago and everyone in my family adored its sweet, fresh fragrance. It has the basil in I love so much and hints of parsley and mint, making it a perfect kitchen or even bathroom candle.

What was the last candle you bought/were given?

I did buy some melts on EBay last night, including Greenhouse, Eucalyptus, Sparkling Pine, Milk and cookies, Early Sunrise, Cottage Breeze. Autumn Leaves and Mistletoe, but my last large jar purchase was Sparking lemon.
