Each shows
perhaps built a little more on the previous one to the point that almost
everything sold out during the evening show. QVC must love how well Yankee
Candle does in their broadcasts and let’s hope this adds a little momentum
towards a Yankee Candle special day in the future (and we all want to be
there!)
First up was
Simon Biagi in the morning and it was a no nonsense appreciation of Yankee
Candle from the off. Two sets of large jars were on offer featuring that
essential accessory – a wick trimmer! The floral option featured Midnight
Jasmine and White Gardenia. The latter pointed out by Steven Corfield as having
the fragrance of ‘sophisticated Gardenia
in full bloom’.
Tons of
other offers including the ‘Give A Hoot’ special (see Sunday’s show review),
the USA Lavender exclusives and the elegant mirrored inside stem holders with
tea lights.
A lovely
phone in to the show from Yankee fan
Valerie who pointed out some of her favourites including Garden Sweet Pea and
Witches Brew (I’m with you on that one Valerie – love Witches Brew!) – and she
mentioned she takes Yankee Candles when she goes on holiday in a caravan. Nice
idea!
The large
jar Q2 release set of Summer Scoop, Fireside Treats and Pineapple Cilantro was
brought back to QVC at an unbeatable price throughout the day with some great
descriptions. Steven noted Summer Scoop
as bringing a feeling of cooling the day down and he mentioned that Yankee had
actually managed to capture the ice smell in the fragrance. Fireside Treats was
described as having woody, smoky notes but with the definite scent of
marshmallows caramelising.
QVC's Q2 release set - still available at time of writing at a bargain price!
On to the
afternoon show and another hilarious hour in the company of Jill Franks. As
with Sunday’s show she brings a refreshing honesty to screen with her
forthright opinions on Yankee Candle scents. Lots of banter with Steven as well
which made for an entertaining hour.
The Coconut
Numeric Tumblers were offered with Jill particularly enthusing and Steven
giving some good information on the fragrances. Coconut and Mandarin was noted
as leading with the mandarin whereas the Coconut and Vanilla Bean had a
stronger coconut leaning and having a cocktail feel with a fragrance in some ways similar to the ever
popular Black Coconut. The last of the trio, Coconut and Lime evoked memories
of delicious chocolate lime sweets.
The Island
Spa large jar set is a great one with Steven Corfield particularly enthusing.
Paradise Spice was described as being like a concentrated Pina Colada fragrance
while he announced that Beach Wood is one of his very favourites from the ‘Fresh’
range. Lastly both loved the stunning Sandalwood Vanilla which for Steven
brings back memories of a plush New York hotel lobby.
Lots more
fun and product but I don’t think many of us will follow Jill’s idea of ripping
the labels off (heresy!) and wrapping ribbons around the jars. Each to their
own I suppose!!
Another
great set of large jars was featured billed as ‘Weekend Adventures’. Fireside
Treats was once again included with Midsummer’s Night, mentioned by Steven as
having Patchouli notes. He also told of Rosa and his joking of this fragrance bringing
back memories of the Milk Tray man (oh – and I included the best Milk Tray man
advert in a previous blog!) – before Jill pointed out that a whole bunch of
20-somethings watching wouldn’t know what they were going on about! Hilarious!
Cadburys – Bring back the Milk Tray man – petition starts here!!
Ahh.. here he is again in another classic Milk Tray ad!!
On to the
evening and host Miceal Murphy who brought a lively feel to proceedings and another
great show with Steven. It was a bit frantic – tons of product and it all kept
selling out. The Yankee Army going into overdrive!
Highlight
was the all too brief preview of the small jar precious range featuring ‘treasures’
(previously retired fragrances) such as Evening Air – described by Steven as
being ‘absolutely stunning’ and ‘cooling and refreshing’, Sage And Citrus – one
of Steven’s all-time favourite Yankee Candle fragrances and Water Garden, with
Steven noting that you can actual smell the water along with the delicate
florals.
A fab one
time only offer on large jars sold out in 2 minutes before a more leisurely
look at the Hurricane Vase with Warm Spice large jar set. Turning down the
studio lights showed how lovely the Hurricane Vase is twinkling with the light
from the candle flame and Warm Spice was described as having a brown sugar
sweetness with calming spices and reminding Steven of his time living in
Germany and the smell of mincemeat in a delicious strudel.
Lastly, a ‘Soft
Summer Memories’ set of medium jars included A Child’s Wish – described by
Steven as a fantasy fragrance evoking thoughts of Dandelion clocks. Miceal
really bought into this one recalling childhood long summers and the smells of
meadows and fields. Pink Sands is in the set too and was noted as being very
relaxing and evoking thoughts of walking along Bermuda sands with a cocktail in
hand. Beach Walk makes up the set with its lovely aroma evoking thoughts of a
fantasy walk along the beach.
So – a terrific
Wednesday’s entertainment for all Yankee Candle fans and three great programmes
from QVC. I can’t say how much I enjoy these shows, it really brings Yankee
Candle to life. I hope you enjoy these blog reports about the broadcasts in
case you’ve missed them .. or want to relive the fun. Any way yesterday’s shows
were a good excuse to hide away from the
heat wave sweeping the nation!
Of course it
is never that long until the next Yankee Candle TV shows and we’re back on QVC
next Wednesday 24th July at 4pm and 11pm.
