I’m
conscious to write articles for newcomers to Yankee Candle as well as the
seasoned fans and collectors. This time last year I wasn’t even a newbie
myself, still being a couple of months away from my first purchase.
So to those
who’ve been thinking of trying Yankee Candle or who are just starting to buy
candles and aren’t sure where to go next, here are a few ideas.
Try before
you buy
One of the
easiest ways to find out what you like is the sniff test. Many shops and garden
centres stock Yankee Candles so pop along and see what you think. One slight
warning though, candles never smell quite the same in a shop as they do in your
home. That’s a positive warning though as usually it is that you will find a
candle smells better in your house than it does in a busy shop! There are so
many scents I didn’t like in a shop that I now own and really like.
Oh and sniff
inside the lids, not the wax. This will give you a closer to real life scent of
what the candle will be like burning.
Buy a scent
you know you will like
It may sound
obvious and if you already like scented candles this shouldn’t be an issue.
Just try a similar Yankee Candle version and you will soon find out how much
more authentic and true to life the Yankee Candle fragrances are. They’re not
the world’s favourite candle for nothing!
So if you
like sweet things try Vanilla Cupcake or Red Velvet, if you like fruity smells
perhaps Fruit Fusion or Sparkling Lemon. If you love the smell of stormy days
and the outdoors perhaps Coastal Waters or Loves Me Loves Me Not are good
places to start.
Christmas is
a great starting point
I think most
people come to Yankee Candle at Christmas.
I certainly did and I know a lot of other fans who form the ‘yankee army’
had the same experience. So if you want to bring the real smell of Christmas
into your home, try one of Yankee Candle’s fabulous scents. If you like the
real life smell of strong pine and an almost incensy feel try Apple and Pine
Needle. If you like a strong fruity spice, perhaps go for Sugared Apple. If you
want the scent of sweets and Christmas fun try Christmas Eve or for home baked
biscuits and cakes go for Christmas Cookie.
Yankee
Candle really does come into its own at Christmas so if you are thinking of
taking the plunge – now is a great time to do so!
Artisans
Artisan
candles are limited edition candles released by Yankee Candle and are often
found for sale via home shopping channel QVC either on one of their Yankee
Candle TV programmes or via their website. Marketed at beginners, they provide an
inexpensive way to try out the large jar experience with a limited edition fragrance blend.
So if you
are just starting out or are growing your collection – enjoy. I’m always happy
to take questions or provide any advice I can as I could talk about Yankee
Candles all day long. You can contact me via Twitter, the Facebook page or by
