BURN REVIEW – SICILIAN LEMON, VINEYARD, AUTUMN WREATH and more! (with new photos)

Definitely a full on autumn feel last week and as the nights draw ever in, the candles I selected to use (mostly) matched the weather.

I started the week with a first ever use of Willow Breeze in votive form. A pungent fresh scent, Willow Breeze is like a blast of sharp clean air whistling through the trees.

Melted one of my favourites, Beach Wood on Tuesday – it really is a totally unique Yankee Candle fragrance.

Wednesday evening and Sicilian Lemon (known as Meyer Lemon in the US) got a rare burn. It isn’t the strongest fragrance ever, but when you do get the lemon scent into the atmosphere, it’s delicious. Almost a slightly bitter lemon fragrance and I love it.

And on Thursday night it was time for my talked about guest candle. Unwittingly I had got the Yankee Army into a guessing frenzy over this candle on twitter! A friend loaned us this jar as she’d had some trouble burning it (it took foil and an illuma lid to get a full pooling) and she wanted to hear our thoughts too. As a bit of added spice, I told her I’d feature it in my burn review. So for the only time ever, I got to use… Vineyard!

I gave it quite a long burn and personally I found its deep fruit notes enchanting (obviously grape), but my wife didn’t like it at all! It whisked me off in my thoughts to Queen Eleanor’s Garden outside Winchester Castle with its vine covered archways. Anyway after 4 ½ hours it only pooled halfway across the jar, so it was then handed back to our friend to try and remedy again. Goodbye Vineyard – I enjoyed our brief acquaintance!

To celebrate the start of the weekend I used Autumn Wreath for the first time. What a winner and one we could both agree on! Its spicy blend of apples and other ingredients give a full on autumn feeling and it really is one of the best ever yankee scents suited to the season.

Saturday was a cold day with tons of rain but with a beautiful array of colour in the garden as the autumn leaves are about to fall. Lakeside Birch suited the damp yet wonderfully atmospheric autumnal day. Its escapist scent is a creamy, sharp perfume and you can easily take yourself off in your imagination to a brisk walk through the woods in the rain.

A real treat on Saturday night as Tutti Frutti got a very rare burning. I think perhaps I’ve slightly overrated it in my mind in the past as one of the very, very best ever (possibly because of its rareness) but its candy sweet notes are indeed a delight.

Into Sunday and the sun won the battle of the weather. Water Garden suited beautifully and it was so warm on the conservatory we even used our new stunning Bronze Flowers illumalid. Water Garden is always delightful. It literally smells of sweet, floral water and you can imagine wandering around the grounds of a stately home in full summer smelling the lovely floral bouquets at waterside.

Finally to close things off Salted Caramel was used once again to warm the cockles on a chilly night!
