YANKEE ARMY
FAN FOCUS
MARC
@MarcoCandle
A special
one this time around. It’s the man behind the Yankee Army Secret Santa!
The Yankee
Army Secret Santa is Marc’s idea and basically a contingent of Yankee
Candle fans have to send each other a YC tart for Christmas. Whoever is sending
your tart is kept secret, but hopefully you get a nice surprise from another
Yankee fan for Christmas! I’ll be keeping a track on the Yankee Candle Secret
Santa on this blog.
Meanwhile,
over to the man behind it….
Please tell
us a bit about you?
I'm Marc and
I live in Edinburgh. I'm an animator!
How did your
Yankee Candle obsession start and when?
I used to
work in theatre and one of our lead guys used to burn Fig candles in his
dressing room. It smelt so beautiful. I told my friend that I was looking for
similar fig scented candles because they're so nice... so for Christmas, she
got me the Yankee Candle "Mistletoe & Fig" jar. After that, I hit
the Christmas sales and got some Yankee Candle sale bargains...and the
obsession started from there.
Can you tell
us a bit about your collection?
Good
question! I haven't actually counted, off the top of my head, I have about 15
large jars, 15 mediums, 10 small jars, 10 tumblers and about 100 melts and a
few votives (I'm not mad about those ones). I went to the states this summer
and was lucky enough to go to the YC HQ in Massachusetts, and brought back some
yankees that I made myself!! Plus some rare ones, including a coconut and
plantain fragrance from a special collection - it's fantastic!
Are you a
collector, a burner or both?
When I moved
from Oxford to Edinburgh, I really cursed my collection, it was so heavy and
took up so much space. From that moment, I didn't see the sense in collecting
only, they're so big and heavy - so I'm a definite burner. If there's a
fragrance I love though, I try to buy in a small version, so I can keep it
forever :)
What is your
favourite Yankee and why?
Such a
difficult question! I guess it should be Mistletoe & Fig as that's where it
started. One of my all time favourites is Blissful Autumn. I also love Black
Cherry (and Cherries on Snow), Lemon Lavender and anything Coconuty. When I was
in the states I found THE most delicious pumpkin candle from the Pure Radiance
range - that's definitely up there too.
If you could
suggest one unmade scent to Yankee what would it be?
I would love
a CK1 type of fragrance - or a pure White Musk one would be nice too (although
I love that Season of Peace has White Musk notes too).
Which Yankee
Candle do you wish was brought out of retirement?
I'm not a
huge follower of what has and hasn't gone out of retirement. I guess I would
like to know Cherries on Snow and Blissful Autumn is always available :)
What was the
last candle you bought/ were given?
The last
candle I brought was a White Christmas medium jar - Hallmark outlet has 3 for
£20! Bargain! The last melt I bought is a secret, ready for the Yankee Army
Secret Santa :)
Thank you
Mark. Oh and for your info both Cherries On Snow and Blissful Autumn have been
retired – better get some in quick!
