MY YANKEE CANDLE DIARY – CHAMPACA BLOSSOM, BLUE LAVENDER, WHITE GARDENIA & more! w/e 2nd March 2014

I started the week with a couple of burns of a Cinnamon and Sugar tart. This is a lovely fragrance and the brown sugar aroma is quite dominant, tempering the cinnamon.

White Gardenia is always a pleasure and one of the true Yankee classic florals. Beautiful, crisp notes of the most delectable flower.

River Valley always suits when it is gloomy or raining. I love it more and more as time goes on. It’s a mid-strength watery, perfumed aroma that refreshes and calms the atmosphere.

Highlight of the week was one of the brand new for 2014 florals for the first time - Champaca Blossom. Yankee Candle fans had warned me it wasn’t the strongest scent in the world, but I now think I know what to look for in Yankee scents that aren’t as overpowering.
Champaca Blossom is completely unique and therefore an acquired taste. It’s like nothing else in the Yankee Candle range and its floral notes are very different. There’s not so much of the perfumed feel that you get with some fragrances. In fact I’d probably describe Champaca Blossom as the most true to life floral scent  I have experienced to date from a candle. Imagine smelling a white or cream flower that doesn’t have a huge scent. This type of flower when you get in close has a deep, almost earthy floral smell to it – and that is how Champaca Blossom came across to me. Very different, quite strong (you will certainly notice it if you come back to a room after stepping out) and completely unique. I love it.

Mountain Pine is another heady tart fragrance and it always brings to mind the purity of scottish forest air to me. Perfect for melting while watching a film set in the jungle!

I had my first go with one of the new ‘Dream Garden’ range burning Blue Lavender on Sunday. It’s a clean, straight ahead lavender fragrance that I’m sure will come into its own as the weather warms up. Personally I lean towards the warmer notes of French Lavender, but if you want a pure and uncomplicated Lavender then this new Blue Lavender scent  fits the bill.

Finally to close the week on a rather chilly night, the warming tones of Cinnamon Stick were more than welcome. Possibly my favourite of all the cinnamon infused scents from Yankee Candle, its spice along with a touch of woodiness make it special at any time of year.
