The heat of
the UK summer has finally broken. It was still quite a warm week, but
definitely cooler and as I write this there is a chill wind blowing on this
August morning.
In terms of
our candle burning as you have probably sussed out we go very much with the
seasons in our house and we try and
enhance what is going on around us. So while our heady florals may be taking a
rest as the garden is in its very final bloom, we’re still feeling a bit fruity
and aren’t quite ready to bring out the autumn big guns!
Wild Passion
Fruit gave a pleasant start to the week, with its deep almost peppery sweet
notes.
This was
followed by the fruity floral of Pink Hibiscus. It’s a very bright, sparkly
floral and it has been fun to burn in this its debut year.
Midweek and it
was the turn of Lake Sunset as the nights begin to draw in a bit. It brings
warming notes of Pineapple into your room as the evening cools down around you.
The lovely
Black Coconut was next and I never tire of its complex blend of notes. This was
the first coconut based candle I’d ever liked and it’s a real favourite in our
house.
As I
returned home for the weekend it was rainy and Meadow Showers was melted. This
scent will always take us back to our lovely Yankee party earlier in the year,
where it was melting all day. This jar melt has lasted and lasted too.
Into the
evening and I treated myself to a bit of ripened fruit on the vine courtesy of
Vineyard. Its pure grape sweet fragrance is quite unique and I really enjoyed
this. My wife who previously disliked the scent returned home after an evening
out and said the house smelled really nice. So there is hope for Vineyard in
our household yet!
Before we
went out for the day on Saturday we freshened things up with a revitalizing
burst of Fruit Fusion. Snap Fruit Fusion up quick if you see it as the scent
has just been retired by Yankee Candle in Europe. I just love its fizzy orangey tones.
After a long
day on Saturday we needed a boost on Sunday morning, so the delightful Vanilla
Lime gave that shot of sharp citrus blended with comforting vanilla creaminess.
I used some
Dune Grass tea lights in the bathroom and already this brings back thoughts of
early summer and the scent of grass coming into its growing season.
Then to
close the weekend, Black Plum Blossom with possibly its last burn of this year.
A strange one this as I don’t know why it was called blossom or has a picture
of the flower on it. It is labelled clearly as a fruit candle and its scent is
101% plummy fruitiness. Very pleasant once it gets going, but there’s very
little floral about it at all. Very much like a summery version of Christmas
Eve in my opinion.
And last but
not least my selected photo of the week from our wonderful Team Yankee Global Fan Group on Facebook. Some really lovely photos posted by our members this
week (keep them coming!) but many agreed this one was just a little bit extra
special. Taken by Adriana from Slovakia – this setting for Midsummer’s Night is
absolutely perfect. This wouldn’t be out of place in one of Yankee Candle’s own
catalogues. Thank you Adriana for sharing such a beautiful portrait.
