This is a
two week catch up and as we have had a heatwave in southern England, it was
time for me to go full on with summer
Yankee Candles!
Tiki Bar
from the Aloha range is a great way to get your summer going. These are the
only Yankee Candles I’ve ever imported from the USA – I just had to have them!
Tiki Bar is like a Pineapple ice cream or smoothie. It is quite subtle, but
delicious!
Tropical
Fruit was next and this one smells like a lovely, fresh, ripened fruit basket.
Golden Sands
I find so warming and its perfumey tonka bean notes whisk you off to the beach
of your dreams!
Aloe Water
has become my favourite morning candle. So refreshing yet gentle too, it is a
real revitaliser and a great way to start your day.
A rare burn
of Beach Escape from a few years ago was next. This is another one that
captures the atmosphere of lying secluded on a sandy beach with the feel of sun
lotion and warm sand.
The star of
all the World Journeys fragrances brought to the UK for the first time this
year for me is Sicilian Orange. It has the most sun kissed, juicy orange aroma
and it’s a real delight.
Rain was
threatened one day but it didn’t come, however Coastal Waters is always great
to burn in the summer. Capturing the atmosphere and aroma of seaspray and a
walk along a choppy beach on a windy day, it is a favourite in our house.
Fruit Salad
in melt form is always delicious. It is much zestier than the above mentioned
Tropical Fruit and in some ways it reminds me of the lovely (and equally
missed) Bahama Breeze fragrance.
Champaca
Blossom was perfect for cooling off a hot night, with its ever so slightly
bittersweet floral aroma. Of all the florals Yankee Candle have released in the
past couple of years, this is probably my favourite as it is so different.
And then my wife bought a hurricane style container!
For the uninitiated, this is a glass container that you can put your Yankee
jars in for decoration or assistance with burning. The one we have is not a
Yankee Candle one and it has an almost bell-bottom opening at the top, making
it give any Yankee Candle a huge throw of scent. This item really works! First
up for a test was the lovely Sandalwood Vanilla. Its oily, beachy, vanilla
notes have never smelled so divine.
Paradise
Spice was next and this one is never shy, with its very summery full on spicy
banana aroma.
Luau Party
added some citrusy orange fizz to Friday night.
To enjoy the
last very hot day forecast it was time for a first burn of Blue Summer Sky (in
the hurricane of course!). This scent is absolutely divine, though it could be
stronger. It has the most elegant indescribable perfume and it is the perfect
accompaniment for a really hot day.
And then later
on Saturday, a candle in honour of our American friends for the 4th
July with the lovely sweet cinnamon flavours of Home Sweet Home.
I also used
a few Bay Leaf Wreath tea lights in the afternoon and evening and I do regret
not getting to know this fragrance a bit better while it was more readily
available. It has a soapy, very lightly spiced and pleasant aroma.
To wrap up, I
also burned a votive of Island Guava. This has a nice creamy,
rich guava aroma and it may sound silly but it definitely has some ambience in
common with Yankee’s Wild Fig.
That’s it
from me for now, I was using lots of other stuff too over the past week and more
will be published in the near future. I have burned the whole new ‘Out Of
Africa’ range and also extensively used Yankee Candle’s new (to the UK)
Scenterpiece system. Watch this space for my thoughts very soon!
