I won't forget May 2018 in a hurry. This was the month and year I left my career after 35 years of working and decided to take early retirement. Lots more time to burn Yankee Candles (you'd think) but in order to take the next step forward, I had a billion and one things to do and sort out.
...Plus it has been pretty much a hot and sunny month so far, so I had to reap some benefit which meant long, lazy days in the garden!
Depending on how you look at it (and whether you like my ramblings), I should be able to blog (and burn!) a bit more, hence this extra burn diary. Despite Yankee Candle testing my patience and almost killing my interest (I cannot accept Yankee Candles being made in Europe), I have still enjoyed burning my collection.
It's been a little difficult at TEAM YANKEE, our Facebook group too. For whatever reason we have seen a drop off in activity this year (I can't be the only one unhappy with Yankee Candles changes), so we've broadened our horizons a bit and opened the door to postings from the wider Yankee family (including embracing the heritage via Kringle). It hasn't come easy for us, but we feel that some of our members were moving on with their candles and some of us behind the scenes were too, so we're seeing how it goes with a slightly wider scope. My first toe in the water is at the very bottom of this blog...
Anyway, on with the (predominantly) Yankees...!
STAR PERFORMER
Napa Valley Sun is that rare scent where every note enhances the others. A vanilla, coconut, grassy delight - and super strong too!
Lots and lots of flowers in the garden and so lovely to enjoy some great Yankee florals over the past couple of weeks. To start the delicious unique Champaca Blossom....
And for possibly the last time this spring, the utterly divine original Cherry Blossom. This has such a beautiful powdery sweetness. It is spring in a candle to me.
The heavenly scent of grapes on the vine are in Grapevine & Oak, along with a noticeable woodsiness.
One of the best fruit medleys that Yankee Candle have done is the strong Citrus Tango.
Tropical Fruit is another fruit combination. This has notes in it that Yankee don't seem to use anymore (that were also in the likes of Blissful Autumn and Orchard Pear). This gives the scent a rich, almost ripened deep fruity aroma.
In our 'use em up' pile is the wonderful Beach Holiday - and I never get tired of it!
Sparkling Lemon is a beautiful fizzy lemon - great for any celebratory time.
One of the most unique florals is Pink Lady Slipper. Such a pretty scent that has become more popular since it retired.
A scent I love more and more is Kilimanjaro Stars. So fresh, you can almost touch the clear night sky...
Loves Me Loves Me Not is a classic springtime Yankee Candle fragrance. The beautiful aroma of flowers and fresh grass.
Island Spa is a great 'cool you off' fragrance, full of effervescent lemony sparkle.
And if you are looking for chic and elegance, you won't go wrong with the beautiful Sea Salt & Sage!
Wild Sea Grass has a really authentic earthy, dampness to it. Whisk yourself off to grass covered sand dunes in your imagination!
Peach with a slightly spicy twist is what Mango Peach Salsa is all about. Yum!
Vanilla Lime is ever popular and so much more than its name would have you imagine. It remains one of Yankee Candle's cleverest scents.
Another sophisticated scent is True Rose. It has the beautiful authentic aroma of red rose petals.
And how can I have a burn diary without at least one of my all time top 3 scents. Midsummer's Night is always stunning!
One that i'll never understand Yankee Candle retiring in the UK is Bahama Breeze. The most delightful fruity mix blended with warm sun and blue waves.
A powerhouse performer is the deliciously complex Madagascan Orchid. Lots of floral notes mixed superbly with a touch of honeyed sweetness.
And as the first rose blooms in the garden, what else....
Hot sunny days = Turquoise Sky. One of the all time best 'blue sea' Yankee Candle scents.
And my best ever peformance from Serengeti Sunset. This was throwing like a champion this time around. An utterly divine warm sun and orange aroma.
And last but not least. My first "Kittredge" candle. It was Mike Kittredge who created Yankee Candle and this new range of candles supposedly uses those original candle recipes. Life's A Beach is wonderful and is similar to Yankee Candle's Sun & Sand despite having different scent notes.
Back soon - thanks for reading!
