BURN REVIEW – HOME SWEET HOME, WITCHES BREW, TREEHOUSE MEMORIES and more!

The last week of (seemingly) longer daylight hours brought warm weather and sunshine. I guess we should be used to these warmer late October days that have been around in recent years… but sitting on a beach in a t-shirt (as I was mid last week) still felt a little bizarre!

On with the candles…

I started the week with a lovely Beach Wood tart. I could never get bored with this fragrance, it actually smells of oily wood – but only the kind you’d find on a beach. Apt considering my seaside trip.

True Rose freshened up the house before our midweek break and after a couple of days away it was lovely to get back to … Home Sweet Home and my first ever use of it. It really is a warming and welcoming fragrance, very cinnamony and very relaxing.

Only a few days left until Halloween, so it is no holds barred now with suitable Yankee Candles! Candy Corn does well any time of day and it fills the room with its delicious, creamy, yet sweet blend.

Witches Brew is more of an evening fragrance with its spicy notes of patchouli and whatever else the witches have blended in!

And for the first time, I used Happy Halloween while watching the ultimate Halloween movie – Trick ‘r Treat. Yes, I know it is not quite Halloween but it really gets you in the mood – both candle and film. Happy Halloween is a rich aniseed blend and should bring back childhood memories of ‘Black Jack’ sweets. It is not too overpowering, but very atmospheric.

Lake Sunset kicked off the weekend. This new autumn fragrance has been a favourite since the summer. Its lovely powdery, fruity tones work equally well in the morning or in the late afternoon as the sun is either rising or setting.

Vanilla Lime followed and it will always liven up your environment. It is great to put a bit of zest in your day while underpinning its sharpness with the creamy notes of vanilla.

A Star Fruit and Orange tart (converted from a sampler) kicked off Sunday like a breezy glass of exotic fruit juice.

We were heading for the big storm on Sunday afternoon and the colourful trees and shrubs were showing off their autumn colours beautifully. So it was time to bring out Treehouse Memories for the first time. It has an unusual fresh perfumey smell – very much like damp leaves or a musty church mixed with a bracing breeze. Another Yankee Candle one of a kind!

And finally to close the week and hide away from the stormy night, Midnight Jasmine has that ‘mysterious evenings’ feel that works well at any time of year. It has been used in Halloween swirl blends before and you can tell why.
