We love Yankee Candles on TV and even more so when it is a
QVC TSV (Today’s Special Value) day. Not only do we get around half a dozen
Yankee Candle TV specials in 24 hours, but also a truly special product
available at a never to be repeated price!
So it was a manic Sunday for newlywed Rosa Speyer with her
first show at midnight on Saturday, then going almost around the 24 hour clock
with a last broadcast at 10pm on Sunday evening. I am sure she’s having a well
deserved day off today!
I managed to catch some of the shows, so aim to give an
insight into some of the products that were (and in a lot of cases are) still
available from QVC. Also as usual, some of the descriptions the presenters used
I include for those who can’t or don’t get the chance to ‘sniff’ the fragrances
themselves before buying.
Sooo let’s kick off and wind the clock back to Saturday
midnight and into the early hours of Sunday…. And what a better way to kick
things off for TSV day than for Rosa to be
accompanied by arguably our favourite QVC host and definitely the biggest QVC
Yankee Candle fan …Craig Rowe!
It was straight into the TSV product which was two gift
packaged boxes of votive candles containing 12 each. Not only were they themed
with lovely Christmassy decoration, but each box contained the brand new Yankee
Candle Christmas fragrances plus 2 USA exclusives in each box. Blimey
– QVC and Yankee pulled out the stops with this one!
It was no surprise that 1200 sets of these sold in the first
7 minutes of the initial broadcast and by the time it had got to 7pm last
night, the number sold was over 16,000!
Titled ‘Magical Moments’ one set has a Christmassy theme
titled ‘Home For The Holidays’ and the other a sweet foody theme, aptly named
‘Sweet Shop’! In the Christmas set were US exclusives Home For The Holidays and
Christmas Wreath, while in the foody set were Whoopie Pie and Gingerbread. I’m
sure many bought these sets just to get hold of these rare candles alone!
Touching on the fragrances throughout the day, Rosa noted new Christmas scent Season Of Peace has a
white musk and brings serenity to any room it is used in, while Honey and Spice
reminded her of a really exotic body lotion and it’s a warming scent lifted by
the spice element. Cherries On Snow she said was a bold, rich evening fragrance
while Cranberry Ice could be thought of as a brighter, daytime, fruity scent.
Rosa and Craig in full flow...
Craig mentioned that Gingerbread took him right back to
making gingerbread with his mum when he was a child and he pointed out Whoopie
Pie ‘smells like 5000 calories’!
You can still pick up this lovely ‘Magical Moments’ set from
the QVC website if you missed the TSV!
The first show was packed with other goodies including
Halloween votive holders with Honey and Spice and Midsummer’s Night candles. Rosa said that you can use these fragrances at any time
of the year and that the latter particularly
gives something dark and mysterious to autumn nights.
Unfortunately, I faded out before the end of the show so
missed the TV debut of the USA
exclusive large jars Christmas release!
Lots of other Yankee goodies were brought to screen in the
subsequent shows and another I particularly enjoyed was the afternoon slot with
Claire Sutton who brought her bright and bubbly personality to the show making
for some fun entertainment. Craig Rowe was back with Rosa
in the early evening for another fun filled hour, before the busy 24 hours
wrapped up with Alison Keenan and some highly inappropriate boots – ahem!
Anyway, back to the products and featuring throughout the day
was the previous TSV product, the delicious ‘Lost In Paradise’ set featuring large
jars of Honeydew Melon, Golden Sands and Midnight Oasis. Rosa
mentioned the super qualities of each fragrance. Honeydew Melon having that sun
ripened, sun drenched feel about it, while Golden Sands brings thoughts of
being on a beach in the late afternoon enjoying the last of the sun’s rays
while feeling completely relaxed and rejuvenated. Lastly Rosa
pointed out the wonderful fresh vetiver notes in Midnight Oasis and how it was
like a softer breezier take on the popular Midsummer’s Night fragrance.
One last set to mention is the new Autumn Fruits large jar
collection (well spotted to Yankee Army members who’ve pointed out the ….um,
non fruity aspect of two of the scents). This collection features the newly
retired Warm Spice, Fireside Treats and Mandarin Cranberry. Rosa
noted Fireside Treats lovely marshmallow with embers feel and it being a great
for a creamy afternoon use. Mandarin Cranberry she aptly captured by noting
that it is bright, fresh, bracing, juicy and zesty. I agree with Rosa there – Mandarin Cranberry is certainly not shy!
Finally Warm Spice she pointed out has nutmeg, vanilla, and brown sugar to give
it a ‘snuggle back in a throw while watching the TV’ feel, while Craig noted
that it reminded him of cooler mornings in Jamaica because of the strong
nutmeg note.
Oh, and I must give a shoutout for Wedding Day which is
included in a new ‘Wedding Bouquet’ large jar trio from QVC. Rosa
said that she gave out gifts of this fragrance at her wedding and she
highlighted its notes including Lily Of The Valley and Tuber Rose giving a romantic,
anticipatory sense to the fragrance. We don’t have Wedding Day in our household
but it is rising up our wants list and hmmmm… maybe this is the set to go for
as it includes Garden Sweet Pea and Honey Blossom too.
So, that was the last Yankee Candle TSV on QVC this year but
don’t despair, Yankee Candles are back in November with the first set of new shows
on the 5th.
